Conventional, culture-based microbiological methods usually deliver results only after 2 to 3 days and they are limited when antibiotic therapies have already been administered. Complementary to blood culture, SepsiTest™ now allows for direct pathogen identification from culture-negative bloodstream infections detecting and identifying more than 345 pathogens. SepsiTest™ can be used for the identification of bacteria, yeasts and other fungi from a broad number of sample types including whole blood, heart valve tissue and synovial fluid. SepsiTest™ is CE-IVD-marked according to the European in-vitro diagnostic directive (98/79/EG) and is now available for routine diagnostics and may be combined with selectNA™. selectNA™ is the first automated platform worldwide, enabling the ultra-sensitive PCR detection of pathogens in whole blood by specific isolation of DNA targets – with a minimum of hands-on time. Based on the pathogen DNA-specific MolYsis proprietary technology, selectNA™ allows for up to 40,000-fold better assay sensitivity as compared to standard DNA-isolation protocols. These are the SepsiTest™ product features:
- Pathogen identification directly from blood, body fluid or tissue
- Identification of more than 345 bacteria and fungi
- Not biased by antibiotics; fast detection results (4 h)
- Identification of blood culture-negative infections
- European approval according to CE-IVD
- Enabling differentiation between “viable” and “dead” pathogen DNA
- Fully automated DNA-isolation system
