Just 4 hours from blood sample to PCR resultUsing standard molecular biology and PCR equipment, the whole downstream detection pathway of SepsiTest™ for clinical samples is, depending on the PCR machine, completed within 3 to 4 hours. The first result is whether the sample is negative or positive for bacteria or fungi. The advantage of this strategy is that negative results (negative predictive value, 97,2%) is obtained timely with a minimum of work. Moreover, also the finding of a bacteraemia or fungaemia may be relevant for therapy. Given direct availability of a modern cycle sequencing system, identification data can be obtained within another 3 to 4 hours, thus, consolidating the whole process of obtaining PCR diagnostic results to 6 to 8 hours. Even a next day result may be helpful in terms of earlier diagnosis, notably in case of fastidious organisms like fungi and growth-inhibited strains in antibiotic-treated patients.
