Just 4 hours from blood sample to PCR result

Using standard molecular biology and PCR equipment, the whole downstream detection pathway of SepsiTestfor clinical samples is, depending on the PCR machine, completed within 3 to 4 hours. The first result is whether the sample is negative or positive for bacteria or fungi. The advantage of this strategy is that negative results (negative predictive value, 97,2%) is obtained timely with a minimum of work. Moreover, also the finding of a bacteraemia or fungaemia may be relevant for therapy.

Given direct availability of a modern cycle sequencing system, identification data can be obtained within another 3 to 4 hours, thus, consolidating the whole process of obtaining PCR diagnostic results to 6 to 8 hours. Even a next day result may be helpful in terms of earlier diagnosis, notably in case of fastidious organisms like fungi and growth-inhibited strains in antibiotic-treated patients. For more information on the validation of SepsiTestsee here .
